After a particularly remarkable year in 2024, marked in particular by an appearance at the Trans Musicales festival in Rennes, the electropunk trio YARD kicks off 2025 with a series of powerful singles from their eponymous debut EP, due out on May 13. Trevor, Appetite, Slumber, and Sunlight make up an intense, daring, and ambitious collection that blends industrial techno, electronic rock, and post-punk. It’s a show of strength that confirms the band’s place among the most innovative acts on the Irish scene.
Renowned for their immersive and powerful live shows, YARD have made a name for themselves in Dublin and internationally. In 2024, the band toured across Europe—Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Slovakia, the UK, and the Czech Republic—and in 2025 they plan to tour the UK again, supporting Chalk, as well as playing more than twenty European festivals.
The first single from the project, “Trevor,” sets the tone. YARD explores anthropomorphism, the tendency to project emotions onto objects. “Trevor was a bike my brother left me. It was stolen on my way home from work. Losing it affected me more than I thought it would — it was like losing a companion,” says Emmet White, the band’s singer.
Musically, the track takes the form of a dystopian electronic journey, carried by euphoric techno rhythms, cascading synth pads, and shrill vocals. The track builds to a hypnotic and aggressive crescendo, the band’s signature sound.
The second track on the EP, “Appetite,” approaches the concept of vampirism from a psychological angle: an invisible, insatiable force that drains identity and motivation while exerting an irresistible attraction. “I’m an appetite, left you insane,” repeats the chorus. The track also evokes self-doubt, intrusive thoughts, and isolation, painting a picture of toxic mental conversations that fuel fear and uncertainty.
‘Slumber’, next, is a striking instrumental track built as a continuous tension. Oppressive, almost claustrophobic, it explodes into a cathartic release of sound. Between frenetic techno rhythms and dark guitars, it fuses raw energy and a cinematic atmosphere.
Finally, “Sunlight” closes the EP on a more introspective note. The track explores death, despair, the loss of time, and the feeling of being out of step with the rhythm of the world. Anger, confinement, and refusal to accept reality intertwine, reinforcing the emotional intensity of the project.
Influenced by figures such as Death Grips, Nine Inch Nails, SUUNS, and The Prodigy, YARD‘s debut EP is a powerful manifesto that combines technical mastery, sonic uniqueness, and a constant search for innovation. An uncompromising project that confirms that this trio will continue to make waves.
