Matt Holubowski
” Somewhere, Someone is to Like Flowers on a Molten Lawn what sprouts are to spring. ”
After his critically acclaimed last album, Matt Holubowski returns with three new tracks and a new EP on 05 April.
“These three songs were among the first I wrote for our last record. I remember pacing madly in my 600 sq. foot apartment in Montreal, early in the winter of 2021, slowly losing my mind, writing Hopefully as a slow, steady, repetitive meditation for myself. Control, The Idle, Youth, and Repose came from the restlessness of this time and, to an extent, became an outlet for the anger and resentment I was feeling about a plethora of things.
Strangers in an Alley served as a companion piece of sorts to Control, and it became a bit of a tongue-in-cheek jab at the way we have normalized sharing every reactionary thought and idea all of the time, without taking the appropriate amount of time to think it over. I sort of liken it to a huckster pawning off copies of their diary to random people on the street, trying to provoke reaction. ”
One might assume than an EP contains B-sides, or some discarded leftovers from a record, but this could not be further from the truth in this case. Somewhere, Someone is at the heart of Matt Holubowski‘s work over the last few years and, in many ways, it feels like he’s saved the best for last.
