Mostly written in New York, in his new city, Every Dawn’s A Mountain marks a new beginning for an artist who is already headlining stages in most of Europe and the Middle East, even playing in front of the Great Pyramid of Giza. His songs and stories have astounded friends and fans such as David Byrne, Lana Del Rey, Mitski and Colin Greenwood.

Every Dawn’s a Mountain is fuelled by the feeling of fire and the realisation that everything that has been built before, and inside you, is about to burn – perhaps for the better. The album is about loss, displacement, brokenness and letting go of the past.

Tamino emerges from these embers of emotional wreckage and begins his next chapter. Although most of the ten tracks were primarily written in his recently moved Manhattan flat, he also recorded in a New Orleans church, in a Brussels studio and in scattered hotel rooms while on tour with Mitski, who sings with him on ‘Sanctuary’.

Although his grandfather, the famous Egyptian singer Muharram Fouad, first encouraged him to learn the guitar, the album is the result of a lot of hard work and the arrangements on the album are largely influenced by the sound of the Arab oud. His voice also burns throughout the album, shifting from a deep, sultry voice to a wavering falsetto the next.

Produced by Tamino and long-time collaborator PJ Maertens, with co-production by Eric Heigle (Arcade Fire, Dawn Richard) and Alessandro Buccellati (Arlo Parks, SZA), and additional production by Chris Messina (Bon Iver, Big Red Machine), Zach Hanson (Bon Iver, Sylvan Esso) and Jo Francken, Every Dawn’s a Mountain follows the albums Sahar (2022) and Amir (2019).
