The year 2025 marks the return of The Feather, the solo project of Thomas Medard, the iconic voice of the band Dan San. Last June, he unveiled a captivating cover of Everything But The Girl’s ‘Missing’, offering a light-hearted taste of summer. Since then, the artist has embarked on a new creative era with new compositions, starting with the singles ‘See You Again’ and ‘Always You’, released at the end of 2024. These tracks, produced, recorded and mixed by Chris Bear (Grizzly Bear’s drummer), have benefited from masterful work. Bear lends his unique touch throughout the album, adding an incomparable sonic texture. Chris Taylor (bassist with Grizzly Bear and collaborator with Twin Shadow, Dirty Projectors, Moses Sumney, Solange and Aaron Parks) also took part in the production, and lends his voice to the choruses of ‘See You Again’. Thomas Hedlund (Phoenix, Cult of Luna) and Kyle Crane (M. Ward, Feist, Peter Bjorn and John…) contribute their airy percussion and organic rhythms respectively. The whole album was mastered by Grammy Award winner Joe LaPorta, renowned for his work with David Bowie, Vampire Weekend, Fleet Foxes and Beach House.
After Invisible (2013), which took him to prestigious international venues (Ancienne Belgique, Maroquinerie, FME and FEQ festivals in Canada), and ROOM (2020), a critically acclaimed home-made album, Thomas Medard is taking things to a new level. Opening up to prestigious collaborations, he is refining his increasingly ambitious indie pop. This return also marks his move to the Dutch label PolyMoon, alongside artists such as Noa Lee and Rosa Butsi.
Earlier this year, The Feather unveiled a captivating musical and visual triptych, illustrating his indie pop universe blending nostalgic synthesizers and introspective songwriting. The first part, ‘All My Life’, is a touching tribute to Simon Medard’s brother, the central character in the three clips produced by studio Camera Etc. This is followed by ‘OMG’, which explores impostor syndrome through an animation packed with musical and literary references by Clémence Rogge. Finally, ‘You And I’ takes us back into the isolation of confinement, with a pictorial production by Belgian painter Stéphane Bronkart.
With these new tracks, The Feather unveil their new album, due out on 25 April. Recorded between Los Angeles, Belgium, Sweden, Barcelona and Madrid, this project promises to be a musical odyssey where emotion and pop sophistication combine to perfection.
